Senior Technician/Quality Manager

Position: Permanent

Salary: Negotiable DOE

Conditions: 40 hour working week with additional rotational weekend work (approx. 1 weekend in 3)

Reporting to: Laboratory Manager

 

Key Responsibilites:

- Implementation and monitoring of the quality system in compliance with ISO 17025.

- Management and control of all management system documentation and amendments to this documentation.

- Liaising with the technical manager on all quality issues.

- Act as the laboratory representative during external quality audits (e.g. accreditation body, customer audits).

- Ensuring that the accreditation body is informed of any changes to the quality manual or scope of accreditation.

- Responsibility for the day to day running of the laboratory, liaising with customers, and ensuring that customer requirements are met.

- Management of a small team of technicians.

- Ensuring that test items are correctly handled, carrying out analysis according to documented test methods and ensuring that test methods are relevant and up to date.

- Checking the accuracy of calculations and transcription to reports. Authorising test reports.

- Maintaining necessary records in a manner, which will permit easy recall.

- Maintaining calibration schedules and associated records.

- Monitoring the performance of suppliers.

- Internal auditing.

- Highlighting anomalies and implementing agreed corrective action.

- Monitoring the performance of the laboratory in external proficiency testing.

- Preparing information for and chairing all management review meetings.

- Drawing up training schedules for personnel and monitoring training to ensure that the required standards are being met.

 

Essential requirements for the position:

- 3rd level degree or higher in science (with emphasis on microbiology, chemistry or food science)

- Min 3-4 years experience in a laboratory/quality setting.

- Strong PC skills.

- Familiarity with ISO 17025 and its concepts.

- Strong leadership skills.

- Ability to drive initiatives and improvements.

 

Desirable requirements for the position:

- Familiarity with EU regulations related to food, feed, water and aquaculture.

- Internal auditing experience.

- Strong analytical abilities.

- Excellent communication and written skills.

- Highly motivated and willing to take on challenges.

- Strong problem solving skills.

- Ability to be adaptable in an often fast changing working environment.
